5 Tips for 2018
I can’t believe it’s going to be 2018?! I’m so excited for this year to be o-ver and for 2018 to roll in hot.
If you’re like me, then you are a goal setter who loves an opportunity to have a fresh slate. New Year’s are so great for this because it’s like we get to hit a pause button on these in between days and a refresh button on January 1st (don’t you find?).
If you want to slayyyyy this year, then I’ve got 5 tips for you!
Tip 1: the Best Day to Start is Today
Why? Because we only have a certain amount of seconds to change a behaviour (#scienceAF). When you feel motivated (like, right now!) that is the moment to start. We often say, “Ok, I’ll eat ALL the carbs now and then quit them in the New Year.” However (sorry 😬), this is actually creating a new habit of indulgence which will be so much harder to break (personal experience talking, here).
Starting today gives you times to fudge up before the new year, so there’s no shame and tanking on your resolutions (girl, it’s hard! Go easy on yoself).
Instead, start today and…
Tip 2: Break Down Your Goals
Take a small (and I do mean small) step in the right direction today. If you want to completely cut out sugar, start by cutting out sugary sodas or chocolate bars (make sure to cut out easy things first, then one big thing as you go along).
This one goes hand in hand with tip 1 because you can decide which step will be easiest for you to take today. Also, when you break down your goals you get that super nice high from accomplishment which will take you further into the year!
Tip 3: It’s 24/7, but don’t let it be
If you’re like me and you’re running your own business, you know: SOCIAL MEDIA NEVER SLEEPS!
It’s a constant scroll of this and that, adding subscribers, losing followers, gaining more back.
This year, I got so caught up in it and forgot about myself. I’d get up in the morning, do my quick devo’s, then jump right onto Instagram.
There is nothing wrong with grinding, but you need to know when to chill and pause. I’ve started reading again. I LOVE reading, but, as I said, it doesn’t give me that instant gratification of a growing business (though there are many benefits to reading), so it’s easy to ignore this hobby. However, I started reading a really good book and it was like the world slowed down for a second.
My thoughts actually became clearer as the noise quieted and I was able to rest.
So, reading is important (if you want some recommendations, click here).
Also, I’m working on assigning a time at night where I turn the phone OFF (ok, so on silent, let’s not get crazy!).
Tip 4: Wake Up Early
I’ve always been a morning person, but this year I got into the habit of waking up/staying up late. Funny thing is, I was less productive AND I found I had less energy.
I watched this vid on How To Wake Up Early (by Sam Ozkural), and it really helped :).
Tip 5: Journalling
In 2016, I took time to write out 10 things I was thankful for every day. This year, I didn’t. I noticed such a big difference, guys! It was like a lightbulb turned on in my head. It’s about taking time to see the things God gave us– the little miracles, in each day.
In 2018, I want to start mood mapping (?). I found these things on Pinterest where you can colour your mood and there’s a different colour for each mood.
As I said, it’s so important to take stock of how you’re feeling/what you’re thinking. The grind gives us a momentary high and allows us to live our dreams, but it can’t be at the expense of our souls. Whether it’s running from something negative, or shying away from something positive, I don’t want to be in that boat. I want to embrace each moment of 2018 and I hope you guys will be there with me 🙂 (cheeeeeese, but it’s true).
Anyways, not it’s your turn! Which tip resonated with you the most? Let me know in the comments below!
Happy New Year!
